Home Away From Home

I hope that my last post encouraged you to establish who you are, because this next topic can be an identity thief. Home is an interesting concept. In the season of starting college, some can't wait to leave home and have "freedom", while others are afraid of no longer being under their familiar roof. Whichever category you fall into, you know what home feels like.

I would imagine that most of you are going through sorority recruitment. This process normally occurs in the first week of being at college, or at least within your first semester or year. That being said, it is one of the first senses of home we can grasp outside of our familiar lives. Girls going through recruitment are in a fragile state. Your entire life has just changed, and now you are putting on a $300 dress to impress Sally, the junior communications major and recruitment chair for chi kappa beta theta. No wonder you are feeling insecure!

When I went through recruitment, I had no idea of my true worth and value. I let the girls who wanted or didn't want me define who I was. This left me in a state of confusion and deep sadness about where I belonged and who I belonged to. I just wanted to find the perfect home. What I didn't realize is that I already have a home that is far greater and better than any sorority mansion. I have a home in heaven. Philippians 3:20 says that "our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ".

Home can be a confusing concept when you go away to college, it is still weird for me and I'm a senior! After years of experience, I have been able to love college while also hoping for a better future with Jesus in my true home.

Whether you are going through recruitment or not, and whether you get the house you wanted or not, you have a forever home in heaven with Jesus, and this membership will never waver.
